How to view Tomcat output on console in Linux

When you run tomcat in Linux you will not see the traditional console with a lot of output like the way you see in windows command prompt.

But almost always it the is required(By the way i don’t understand why haven’t they provided the same functionality by default 😦 ).

Tomcat saves its logs in a file “catalina.out” under Tomcat_Home/logs directory. So you have to do two things

Note:I assume that you have already set the tomcat environment variables.

1- Open terminal and type startup.sh

2- Open another terminal tab and write the following command

tail -f catalina.out

Press enter and you will now see all the runtime output of tomcat web server…
