Installing MySQL on Linux/Ubuntu


1- Open terminal

Applicaions > Accessories > Terminal

2- Type following

sudo apt-get install mysql-server

3- MySQL comes with no root password. To set the root password, type:

mysqladmin -u root password your-new-password

and type:

sudo /etc/init.d/mysql restart

4- Also install MySQL Query Browser that provides GUI for MySQL.

sudo apt-get install mysql-query-browser

5- After installing, go to Applications > Programming > MySQL Query Browser to open Query Browser
